We are seeking Substation Electrical Apprentices to join our  Marleston-based team, with roles commencing in February 2027. While your base will be Marleston, this role covers the entire state and may require extended periods of travel and working away from home as part of your training and development.

The opportunity

Through this four-year apprenticeship, you’ll earn the nationally recognised Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820) and become eligible for an electrical worker’s licence. This program equips you with the knowledge and hands-on experience to work as an electrical tradesperson in substation construction and maintenance, transformer maintenance, customer connections, and emergency supply restoration.

Your work will include:

• Constructing and maintaining substations. 

• Installing and maintaining circuit breakers, transformers, and switching equipment. 

• Installing and maintaining systems that control the distribution network. 

• Performing high-voltage switching on the distribution network. 

• Restoring electricity supply during emergencies. 

• Diagnosing and repairing faults on the distribution network. 

• Connecting customers to the electricity grid.

Eligibility:

• Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents;

• Proficient English, and sound numeracy and mechanical reasoning skills;

• Completion of Year 11 or equivalent; and 

• Current Australian driver’s licence (full or probationary).

If shortlisted, applicants will need to be available for the following:  

• Online aptitude testing; 

• Interviews (online and face to face); 

• Heights and Dexterity testing; and  

• Pre-employment background checks including medical, driving history and criminal history check. 

Please note that due to the volume of applications and the number of recruitment process stages, the process from application through to offer can take up to five months. To be successful, candidates will need to make themselves available for all of the above steps.   

Applicants will need to be available for interviews at our Angle Park Training Centre during October.
