Are you passionate about IT and cyber security? Do you want to kickstart your career with hands-on experience while gaining an industry recognised certification? SA Power Networks is offering a unique Cyber Kickstart Program, designed to help you launch a successful career in cyber security. 

About the Program:

This 2-year program combines structured learning with hands-on experience, providing the ideal balance of knowledge and practical application. 

Through our partnership with the Australian Computer Society (ACS), you’ll gain cyber security training while applying your knowledge in real-world situations. You will spend two days a week in a structured learning program, and three days each week working alongside experienced professionals in various cyber security teams at SA Power Networks. 

You’ll contribute to a wide range of activities in the cyber security field, including: 

• Cyber security advisory (Governance, Risk, and Compliance)
• SECOPS (Security Operations)
• Digital Identity

You’ll gain experience with industry-leading security technologies and practices, including firewalls, SIEM tools, vulnerability assessment, and more. As you apply your skills, you’ll be mentored by industry experts and work in a high-performing team.

Career Pathways: 

Upon completion of the program, successful candidates will have developed the necessary skills to pursue a full-time role in Cyber Security or broader IT teams.

• Strong interest in IT and cyber security. 

• Strong willingness to learn and grow throughout the 2-year program. 

• Strong communication skills. 

• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team. 

• A keen interest in solving complex problems and adapting to new challenges. 
  
  
• Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office. 

Application Process: 

Our application process is designed to identify candidates with the aptitude and enthusiasm for a career in cyber security. It also gives you the opportunity to showcase your skills and demonstrate how you’d be a great fit for this program. The process is structured into three parts, with progression to each stage based on your success in the previous one. 

Part 1 – Initial Submission: 

Submit a cover letter and resume that address the following: 

• Tell us about yourself and why you think you’re a great fit for this program.

• Explain what motivates you to pursue a career in cyber security. 

• Share your career goals and how this program aligns with them. 

• Highlight any existing skills or experiences that could be transferable to cyber security. 

• Describe why you want to join SA Power Networks. 

Successful applicants from this stage will progress to Part 2. 

Part 2 – Video Interview & Report: 

You will be required to:

• Complete a short video interview where you’ll provide more details about your interests, motivations, and fit for the program. 

• Submit a one-page report analysing a potential threat actor that could target SA Power Networks. This task allows us to assess your understanding of the cyber security landscape and your ability to research and present findings. 

Successful applicants from this stage will be invited to Part 3. 

Part 3 – Team Interaction and Exercises: 

• Spend a few hours onsite with our team, participating in team-based exercises designed to evaluate your critical thinking, collaboration, and ability to work in a team environment. This stage provides an opportunity for you to experience our team culture and showcase your problem-solving skills. 

  Eligibility

• be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• have successfully completed Year 12 or higher education
• must be 18 years of age at point of application
• be based in Adelaide

We’re seeking four candidates for this program: 

• Two successful applicants will start in July 2025

• Two additional candidates will commence early 2026
