About the role

SA Power Networks is seeking a Strategic Investment Engineer to join the Asset Investment team on a permanent basis.

The Strategic Investment Engineer will assist and coordinate the development and application of innovative investment strategies on the Network. The role provides expertise in identifying and investing in feeder automation, bushfire mitigation initiatives, standalone power systems, community batteries and microgrids; while focusing on emerging technologies of the energy transition.

This engineering-focused position plays a crucial role in incorporating non-network solutions and advanced technologies into strategic investment plans – optimising value for customers and stakeholders.

Key role objectives:

  • Identify and drive investment in innovative technology.
  • Collaborate with Regulation and Strategy Innovation & Growth teams – assisting with the introduction of new investment types, such as microgrids.
  • Support the Asset Investment team in the development of Regulatory Investment Tests.
  • Assess financial viability of non-network solutions.
  • Work with the Asset Strategy & Insights team to develop systems, procedures, and models that optimise investment.
  •  Conduct project engineering activities for all innovative and non-network solutions.

About you

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, IT & T or Mechatronic Engineering qualification, that will allow admission as Corporate Member of Institute of Engineers Australia.
  • Experience working in energy distribution or an aligned industry and/or consultancy.
  • Understanding of financial modelling.
  • Experience in similar planning, strategic investment role and industry will be advantageous.
  • Strategic planning capability, change management, stakeholder management and proven ability to influence at all levels.
