Reach new heights with a Powerline Transmission Apprenticeship at SA Power Networks

Our Apprenticeship Program gives you all the training and support you need to thrive and will set you up with a career, rather than just a job.

As South Australia’s electricity distributor, SA Power Networks builds and maintains the poles, wires and substations that deliver power expertly and safely to South Australians.

In gaining an Apprenticeship with SA Power Networks, you will play a big part in helping us deliver an essential service for your community, along with joining an organisation that values safety and diversity, and recognises success.

As an Apprentice with SA Power Networks, you will enjoy:

  • Hands-On and Varied Work: Work outdoors in a hands-on role where no two days are the same, all while making a difference in your community.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: Build a stable and rewarding career with plenty of room for growth, supported by ongoing training and development.

  • Supportive Work Environment: Join a welcoming, inclusive team with a strong safety culture.

  • Competitive Remuneration & Benefits: Earn above-award wages (including for mature-aged apprentices), plus allowances, overtime, and up to $900 annually towards your electricity bill.

We are seeking Powerline Transmission Apprentices to join our team, with positions starting in May 2026.

The opportunity

Through this four-year apprenticeship, you will gain hands-on experience and develop the skills needed to become a qualified Powerline Transmission Worker, earning the nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Transmission Overhead (UET30521).

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to work on SA Power Networks Transmission powerlines primarily on the 66Kv network. You’ll also have the chance to develop advanced skills in live powerline work and plant operation, setting you up for a rewarding career in the energy industry.

As part of this role, you’ll travel across South Australia, working on critical infrastructure projects in various locations. This may include night work, weekend work and living away from home for periods of time, giving you the chance to explore the state while contributing to essential services.

If you’re looking for a varied, hands-on career where no two days are the same, this apprenticeship is for you!

Eligibility:

  • Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents;

  • Proficient English, and sound numeracy and mechanical reasoning skills;

  • Completion of Year 11 or equivalent; and

  • Current Australian driver’s licence (full or probationary).

Our ideal candidates for an Apprenticeship will have a strong work ethic, a team-first mentality and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality and our customers.

If shortlisted, applicants will need to be available for the following:

  • Online aptitude testing;

  • Interviews (online and face to face);

  • Heights and Dexterity testing; and

  • Pre-employment background checks including medical, driving history and criminal history check.

Applicants will need to be available for interviews at our Angle Park Training Centre during March.

Applications close Sunday 8th February at 10:00pm

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, and proudly support a growing number of female, mature age, and First Nations apprentices. We welcome people from all genders, communities and culturally diverse backgrounds, we value your voice, and prioritise your well-being.
