About the opportunity 

The SAP Software Engineer provides expertise in the areas of consulting, implements existing projects, maintains and provides technical support for SAP solutions to ensure an optimum product lifecycle of application services that support business processes. They manage applications including enhancements, installations, configurations, and upgrades. They develop and maintain the applications accessed by business users and the interfaces used in business processes. They keep these in a usable state, ensuring they are correct, consistent and available at all required times. They lead the development of standards in their area to enable adoption of best practices.  

At SA Power Networks, as part of our SAP Landscape, we have two S/4 HANA systems (ERP & IS-U), other peripheral SAP environments and SAP Business Technology Platform on Cloud Foundry.  

The SAP Software Engineer possesses superior technical skills and acts as a Subject Matter Expert in at least two to three of the following areas: 

  • SAP Cloud Application Programming (CAP) 

  • RESTful ABAP Programming (RAP) / Legacy ABAP Core 

  • SAP Fiori Customs or Elements  

  • SAP BTP Administration including CI/CD with strong understanding of Cloud Foundry, Workzone, SAP Build and XSUAA 

  • Experience with some BTP services like Event Mesh, AI Core and Hana Cloud, SAP Build Apps 

  • Experienced with SAP Integration Suite and SAP Process Orchestration 

  • Develops CPI/PI/PO objects using new approach and practices in SAP S/4 HANA 

  • Proficient in Graphical, Java, Groovy Script, and XSLT Mapping styles. 

Key Role Objectives 

  • Designs, develops, and implements SAP applications and modules. 

  • Maintains and/or develops ABAP/Fiori/CAP/RAP code in the SAP system using current technologies and methodology. 

  • Actively participates in the code review process, adhering to agreed standards, security policies, and ensuring appropriate escalation processes are in place for all applications. 

  • Understands Clean Core concepts. 

  • Monitors SAP system errors, batch jobs, and external interfaces to analyse and rectify programme performance issues. 

  • Implements, configures, and supports the relevant SAP technology stack, ensuring build quality and subsequent application availability, performance, reliability, maintainability, serviceability, and capacity align with agreed service level agreements (SLAs) and KPIs. 

  • Troubleshoots and resolves performance issues to ensure efficient system operation. 

  • Monitors application performance to optimise scalability and efficiency. 

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation for SAP solutions. 

  • Assists and supports in training end-users and other team members on SAP features and best practices. 

  • Ensures applications and integrations comply with security standards. 

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation. 

  • Stays updated with the latest SAP technologies and integration methodologies. 

 Essential Role Requirements: 

    Education:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is typically required1.  

  • Certifications in SAP BTP or CPI or related technologies.  

    Experience:  

  • Previous experience with SAP BTP projects and tools (4-5 years of software development experience is desirable) 

  • Familiarity with business processes and system integration.
