About the opportunity

The Equipment Engineering Manager at SA Power Networks will oversee the introduction and management of new equipment, ensuring compliance with safety, technical, and operational standards across distribution, substation, telecommunication, and SCADA assets.

This role is pivotal in maintaining high safety and quality standards, leading investigations into equipment failures, and developing effective risk management and sourcing strategies. You will work closely with the Procurement team to ensure cost-effective and strategic equipment procurement while fostering transparent communication with stakeholders throughout the evaluation and introduction process.

 

Key role objectives include

Leadership & Management: Ensure business expectations are met, and liabilities mitigated through robust engineering specifications and continuous improvement of procedures.

Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain E-Drawings and Switching Operators Handbook (SOHB) instructions, balancing business outcomes with managed risks.

Whole-of-Life Cost Evaluations: Assess equipment life cycle costs, considering operational, design, and maintenance factors to select optimal long-term solutions.

Asset Management Improvements: Investigate asset failures and perform quality assurance on new equipment to enhance overall asset management practices.

Standardisation & Rationalisation: Promote standard design templates and compatible units for distribution, substation, telecommunication, and SCADA assets.

 

Essential role requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in asset management, particularly in power utilities.
  • Proven ability to lead equipment management initiatives and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
