About the role

SA Power Networks are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our Performance, Reward & Payroll Team.  

The Senior Payroll Officer reports to the Payroll Manager and is primarily responsible for providing expert advice and support to employees on payroll matters, while ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll across the organisation. The role also supports the Payroll Manager in building team capability, managing workload, and serving as the first point of escalation for technical payroll issues. In addition, the Senior Payroll Officer contributes to payroll-related projects and promotes cross-functional collaboration and consistency in processes.

About you

  • Diploma in Payroll Management or Accounting or the equivalent skills and knowledge gained through experience.
  • Significant experience in end-to-end high-volume payroll in a large, complex organisation.
  • Highly developed experience providing advice on complex payroll matters.
  • Ability to understand the business context and provide clear, balanced advice that supports effective decision‑making and consistent payroll practices.
  • Experience with Award, EBA interpretation and relevant legislation governing payroll.
  • Strong customer service experience and communication skills, with a track record of developing strong business relationships at all levels.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive change in a transformational environment.
  • Demonstrated agility and adaptability to support shifting priorities and needs.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, demonstrating initiative to develop innovative solutions.
  • Leadership capability, including coaching and supporting Payroll Officers, managing workflow, and building capability across the function.
